An initiative by Team Yugam of Kumaraguru College of Technology and Rotary Coimbatore Central, the food truck, named ‘Trans Pride’ will take rounds in Coimbatore city and make halts at colleges during breaks.
The transgender crew consists of Taslima Nasrin, Suchithra, and Yamini, and they will be assisted by members of Team Yugam.

The Trans Pride Food Truck is a step in a positive direction because students will be exposed to the talent and work-capabilities of the transgender community.
Taslima believes that today’s students are tomorrow’s policymakers and leaders so if they are aware of the talent pool in the community; they might be able to help them to integrate with the society in a better manner.
Suchitra was worried that people would make fun of her, but her fears were put to rest. She was pleased with the interaction and told the Times of India, “When students interacted with me in an amicable manner, I changed that opinion,” she said. Incidentally, Suchitra has expanded her cooking repertoire, and now makes pizzas and burgers in addition to Indian food.
According to Shakti Priyadarshini, a student of a third-year biotechnology student of Kumaraguru College of Technology, the initiative aims to establish that the transgender community can be a productive and integral part of mainstream society.
N Damodharan, president Rotary Coimbatore Central, said that it was glad to support this initiative and they would be happy to fund more transgender food trucks in the future.
